Pele vessel sink Pele vessel sink The Vibrant Red & Amber bowl, was my interpretation of the flowing hot lava that created the Hawaiian Islands. "Pele", is Hawiian for "Goddess of fire", she who shapes the sacred land. The bowl is transparent. Illuminating from above (or below) will cast its color onto adjacent surfaces. This bowl was influenced by the effect of sunlight entering a prism and displaying the spectrum of visible color, as first discovered by Sir Isaac Newton. The bowl's colors are luminous, transparent striations with alternating strips of rainbow and black iridescent, giving it a shimmering radiance. Close-up detail shows silvery gold metal floating on the surface of aqua green. The metal creates a smooth mottled texture on the surface of the glass, much like hammered copper. When light is shining directly onto the surface of the glass, the metal will appear more silver. In an indirect lighting situation, the metal shows more gold to bronze in color. When back lighting, the metal becomes transparent in places, mostly where the light is focused.

Rock Study vessel sink My inspiration for this piece, was the often seen "metamorphic banding" in the granite rocks of the Black Canyon of Colorado.The bowl has an overall darkness, much like the canyon itself.
